Once upon a time, a briefcase was a belonging of the elite. If somebody carried a briefcase, people would address him ‘Sir’ for sure. Talking about those days, briefcases were restricted to men. However, the story today is quite different than that.

Although every single person would know what a briefcase is, only a handful would know its origin. Briefcases were originally modeled after a bag from the 1300’s for storing money and prizes. Back then these bags were called ‘budgets’ originating from the Latin word ‘Bulga’ which meant leather bag. It was a French company named ‘Godillot’ that modified the ‘budget’ in to a bag with a hinged iron frame on a carpetbag. Thus after many generations, the briefcase of today bearing a metal frame came to exist as a bag for carrying lawyer’s briefs; i.e. documents; thus, deriving its name: the briefcase.

In today’s competitive world, it is not only lawyers that carry briefcases. It’s just about anybody, with the addition of a briefcases designed especially for women. Today’s briefcases are designed in various ways, customerized to fit different needs. When it comes to women, you can even spot designer briefcases in the market adding the right kind of taste in to their fashion sense. A women’s briefcase not only allows maintaining a professional outlook but also adds limelight to feminineness. So can observe many women becoming proud owners of these versatile carriers called briefcases.

When it comes to men, the scenario is not much different. You can find many types of briefcases in the market which are career specific even. For example, pilot’s briefcases can be clearly distinguished from a medical health representative’s and further distinguished from an IT professional’s. All these types are mostly classified as ‘unisex’ items because it is no more possible to distinguish between a man’s type of career and a woman’s.
