Did you ever wonder when the tradition of gift wrapping began?  Gift giving started even before Christmas ever took place.  During the time of the Romans it was already a common practice to give gifts and offerings to people or oracles.  With the rise of Christianity, the order was to give gifts on Christmas, and it became one of the mainstay practices until now.  As we all know, gifts are given in special occasions even if its not Christmas as long as the event calls for a gift.  There was no gift wrap during those times.  In the middle ages, the gifts were wrapped in plain sturdy papers or pouches to conceal the contents.  Gift wrappers then evolved to tissue papers and more dexterous papers for folding.  To seal the gifts in the early days, one has to close it with strings or wax.  It was not until 1932 that the scotch tape was invented so people were really resourceful enough to find ways to seal their gifts properly. 

Colorful gift wrappers came out when the printing industry was already up and running, but then the fact that there were still a few companies that went into mass production of gift wrappers at wholesale basis that other alternatives were still considered just like before.  The designs during the early days of gift wrappers (1890s) were into Victorian art and religious images.  Decades later, the gift wrap industry also evolved with the times.  It was usually the case that whatever the trend of the times will be, the gift wrap will also follow.  It was in the 1980s that the glittering and shiny foil like gift wraps surfaced with the times.  Until now we see evolutions of gift wrappers.  From a wide range of designs to choose from, big companies selling gift wraps go into wholesale purchasing.  Gift wraps are sold in wholesale for those who intend to save and consider the other expenses.  With a diverse variety of designs, the gift wrap is the outer shell of the gift that will be a hallmark of other people’s lives.
